Preparing for a summer internship can be a daunting task, especially without any previous work experience.
After completing a number of summer internships, I’ve created this list of my top lessons learned to help smooth your transition into the workplace.
Some of these tips have come from things that I have done right, but an overwhelming majority I learned from making mistakes.
and… of course the biggest update of the summer of 2012 is: Vanessa Van Edwards
1. Always ask what you can do – going out of your way to get work will impress any employer and make you an asset to the company.
2. “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” – Samuel Beckett says it better than I can. Continue to improve yourself.
3. Do your research – know the company you are going to work for and their industry, it will help you immensely when you start out. Google is your friend.
4. Understand social media – don’t just know how to post pictures of your puppy. Know how your employer and competitors use social media in their industry and be ready to talk about it.

Vanessa’s understanding and her fresh approach are cutting edge! Vanessa message has not changed much in the past 4 plus years… but what she has done is spent her time adding a wonderful supporting cast, to share her parenting message across the many media platforms, and refined her methods to become one of my favorite bloggers, teen educators and young entrepreneurs…
In today’s media driven technology-based world we all live in, PARENTS need to teach and inspire their children. Because “Our Kids” are being tested, studied, manipulated and catered too… by corporate america, the entertainment industry and Global Peer Pressure (or friends)!!
Almost every kid is now armed with their own iPod, Smartphone or notebook at their disposal 24/7. Many have the belief that they DERSERVE it or are somehow entitled to it. Parents need to take a step back and evaluate their family life and make some choices about how technology should be used in their homes before it is too late for their KIDS!
I consider Vanessa & Radical Parenting website to be one of the Top 10 Parenting and Mommy Bloggers on the planet. I’m not alone in this thinking, many others consider her to be right on target, when it comes to helping both teens and parents understanding that their young lives are so full of challenges and teens need their parents more than any other time in history!!
