Teaching Parents The How-To’s Of Daily Online Security & Safety

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Government.

—————-
Enact a Cyber Law

My name is Kelley Cahill and I am creating a petition that will make it a felony and crime punishable by law for anyone who frauds, cons or deceives any persons online.

As a result of meeting a man on Match.com six years ago who claimed he was divorced, I entered into a year long relationship that resulted in financially investing and emotionally investing all I had all to find out that he had been married the entire time and that he had been conning women on social media sites and dating sites for about 12 years. Read the full letter & petition!

I just read this story this morning on my MSN.com daily updates… and if you have not heard how dangerous and deadly texting is while driving then you have to read this story below!

To see the full story: Man texts, ‘I need to quit texting,’ before driving into ravine

About six months ago, Chance Bothe typed out a text message while driving down a familiar Texas road. It was a simple “b right there,” but it changed the 21-year-old man’s life. While sending it, he veered off the road and into a ravine. Instead of visiting his pal, the young man wound up in a hospital, battling for his life.

Even more chilling was a message he’d written in the moments prior to that: “I need to quit texting, because I could die in a car accident,” he’d typed. Luckily for him, the prophecy was only partly right.

Vanessa Van Petten

Preparing for a summer internship can be a daunting task, especially without any previous work experience.

After completing a number of summer internships, I’ve created this list of my top lessons learned to help smooth your transition into the workplace.

For the of the Children

My Interview with a

Convicted Sex Offender

It’s only been 4 weeks since Jerry Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse and even now, new information is becoming public regarding who in authority knew what, who was complicit and how these crimes against innocent boys could have been prevented. This past Sunday on Meet the Press, Bob Costas talked about the collateral damage when injustice occurs, such as the possible suspension of the Penn State football program in this case. The old saying is true, “The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is that good men (and women) to do nothing.”I wish I could say I am surprised to hear that an “upstanding leader in our community” has been accused of child sexual abuse. I never am. Perhaps I’m not surprised because I was sexually abused by such a person when I was a young girl. Or perhaps it’s because I see it every day. Am I a cynic? No. Am I a realist? Yes. Research indicates that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before adulthood; sadly, 30-40% of these victims are abused by a family member and 50% are abused by someone outside the family whom they know and trust. (U.S. Department of Justice)

I had the rare opportunity to interview a convicted sex offender for our Internet Safety 101 DVD series. I thought he would be the ideal person to educate adults, as well as kids, about how predators think, how they seduce and groom their victims, how they view themselves, how they develop a sexual appetite for children and why they decide to act upon that desire.
